Introduction

Howdy folks, I've had some of characters sitting around in my head for a couple years, and thank to my wonderful team of AI interns, finally got around to fleshing out some of their backstories and connecting some threads for potential plot hooks for player characters to stumble into. Dungeon Masters of the internets, feel free to steal, copy, and adapt.

1. Archive

  • Race: Warforged
  • Class: Warlock (Hexblade), Bard (Spirits)

Archive was created by House Cannith during the later years of the Last War as a prototype warforged designed for infiltration and intelligence gathering. Their unique combination of skills as a warlock hexblade and a bard of the college of spirits made them a formidable and versatile asset on the battlefield. Archive was imbued with the ability to communicate with the spirits of the deceased, which proved invaluable in gathering information from fallen enemies and allies alike.

As a hexblade, Archive wielded a sentient weapon, a pact-bound blade that granted them an uncanny ability to strike with deadly precision. Their bardic talents allowed them to blend seamlessly into enemy ranks and manipulate others through their silver tongue, while the spirits whispered vital secrets and guidance.

When the Treaty of Thronehold brought an end to the Last War, Archive, like many other warforged, found themselves in a world that no longer needed their specific talents. As a result, Archive began searching for a new purpose, one that could help them navigate their newfound freedom and make use of their unique abilities.

Eventually, Archive found their way to the bustling city of Sharn, where they were drawn to the vibrant nightlife and the countless stories shared within the city's many taverns and inns. Inspired by the people and spirits they encountered, Archive decided to open a bar in one of Sharn's bustling entertainment districts. They named it "Whispers and Spirits," a fitting tribute to their dual nature as a warlock hexblade and a bard of the college of spirits.

Whispers and Spirits quickly gained a reputation as a place where people could share their stories, secrets, and sorrows in a welcoming atmosphere. Archive became a beloved figure in the community, offering a listening ear and guidance to patrons while using their abilities to ensure a safe and comfortable environment for all. Over time, Archive began to embrace their role as a confidant and mentor, using their knowledge and experiences to help others navigate the challenges and complexities of life in post-war Eberron.

Though Archive has left their past as a warrior and spy behind, they remain ever vigilant, using their unique abilities to protect their patrons and ensure that Whispers and Spirits remains a haven for those seeking solace, friendship, and the wisdom of the spirits.

2. Hinok Longrrimp

  • Race: Elf - Mark of Shadows
  • Class: Bard (Whispers)

Hinok Longrrimp, a talented elf bard trained in the College of Whispers, was born with the Mark of Shadows, a legacy that bound him to House Thuranni. Growing up, Hinok honed his musical talents and learned the arts of deception and manipulation, eventually becoming a skilled spy and assassin for the House during the Last War.

To complete his missions, Hinok joined a troupe of performers, using his natural charisma and talent for the arts to blend seamlessly into the group. As they traveled from place to place, Hinok would slip away from the troupe to carry out his assignments, eliminating targets with ruthless efficiency. By hiding in plain sight, he avoided suspicion, and his lethal deeds were often dismissed as tragic accidents.

The Last War ended, but the ghosts of Hinok's past actions refused to fade. Haunted by the lives he took and the lies he told, Hinok sought a fresh start in the bustling city of Sharn. There, he hoped to leave behind his dark past and forge a new life free from the influence of House Thuranni.

However, escaping his past proved more difficult than Hinok anticipated. His Mark of Shadows made it nearly impossible to remain anonymous, and he found himself drawn to old habits. Despite his desire for a quiet life, Hinok couldn't resist the allure of sharing stories and secrets with his friend Archive, or "Rchy" as he affectionately called him, at Whispers and Spirits, a local tavern.

Now, Hinok Longrrimp walks a delicate tightrope between his dark past and the life he dreams of. As he grapples with the weight of his past deeds, Hinok strives to find a new purpose, one that will allow him to embrace the talents he honed as a bard without succumbing to the shadows that have haunted him for so long. In Sharn, he hopes to find redemption and a path forward, even as the specter of House Thuranni continues to loom over him.

3. Ey’ron Maahn

  • Race: Warforged
  • Class: Artificer (Armorer)

Ey'ron Maahn, a warforged artificer armorer, was created by House Cannith to serve as a powerful weapon on the battlefield during the Last War. His unique design allowed him to incorporate various armor and weaponry directly into his own body, making him a formidable force to be reckoned with. As the war raged on, Ey'ron's combat prowess and strategic mind earned him the respect of his comrades and the admiration of his superiors.

It was during this time that Ey'ron met Woo-den Maahn, a prototype warforged made of charred and hardened wood who specialized in transmutation magic. Recognizing a kindred spirit in Woo-den, Ey'ron forged a bond with him, and the two quickly became inseparable, referring to each other as "brothers." While Ey'ron admired Woo-den's magical talents, his own expertise lay in the crafting and maintenance of weapons and armor, a skill that proved invaluable to their unit.

When the Last War finally came to an end, Ey'ron and Woo-den found themselves adrift in a world that no longer required their skills for warfare. Determined to make the most of their unique abilities and the bond they shared, the two brothers decided to open a magic shop in a bustling city, which they named "Maahn's Magical Marvels."

At Maahn's Magical Marvels, Ey'ron focuses on the crafting and enchantment of weapons and armor, using his artificer skills to create custom items tailored to the needs of their customers. His experience on the battlefield and his ability to incorporate armor and weaponry into his own body give him an unparalleled understanding of the relationship between a warrior and their equipment, making him the perfect craftsman for adventurers and warriors seeking the finest gear.

While Woo-den handles the transmutation and enchantment side of the business, Ey'ron's expertise in forging weapons and armor has made their shop a go-to destination for adventurers seeking high-quality, personalized gear. The brothers' complementary skills and shared passion for the arcane have transformed Maahn's Magical Marvels into a thriving and beloved local institution.

In the years since the war, Ey'ron has found new purpose and meaning in his life, working alongside his brother to bring magic, wonder, and superior craftsmanship to the people of the city. As a testament to their bond, Ey'ron and Woo-den continue to support each other, using their talents to make the world a safer and more wondrous place for all.

4. Woo-den Maahn

  • Race: Warforged
  • Class: Wizard (Transmutation)

Woo-den Maahn was one of the earliest warforged prototypes created by House Cannith, designed to test the potential of crafting a sentient construct from charred and hardened wood. Despite the unusual material, Woo-den was successfully imbued with arcane abilities, specifically those of a transmutation wizard. As a prototype, he was not built for the rigors of war but rather as a proof of concept and support unit, capable of altering materials and providing valuable resources to the battlefield.

Though Woo-den Maahn was not as resilient as his metal counterparts, his wooden frame lent him a certain charm, making him an endearing figure among his fellow soldiers. Woo-den's transmutation abilities proved invaluable on the battlefield, allowing him to alter the terrain and fortify defenses, as well as transform common objects into valuable tools and weapons.

During his time in the war, Woo-den Maahn forged a strong bond with Ey'ron Maahn, another warforged who served alongside him. Ey'ron was a skilled artificer who admired Woo-den's transmutation abilities, and the two quickly became inseparable, referring to each other as "brothers."

When the Last War ended, Woo-den and Ey'ron found themselves in a world that no longer needed their talents for warfare. The two brothers decided to start anew, combining their skills and knowledge to open a magic shop in a bustling city. They named their store "Maahn's Magical Marvels," a nod to the family they had built together, as well as their shared interest in the arcane.

As owners of Maahn's Magical Marvels, Woo-den and Ey'ron provide a wide range of magical items, enchanted trinkets, and rare components to the city's residents and visitors. Woo-den's transmutation abilities allow him to create custom magical items and enhance existing ones, while Ey'ron's artificer skills enable him to maintain and repair enchanted objects.

Despite his age and the wear and tear on his wooden frame, Woo-den Maahn remains a vital presence in the community. His gentle nature and passion for magic have endeared him to many, and his partnership with Ey'ron has turned Maahn's Magical Marvels into a beloved local institution.

Together, Woo-den and Ey'ron have found new purpose in their post-war lives, using their unique talents to bring magic and wonder to the world around them.

Growing up in a family of tinkerers and engineers, she was exposed to the world of artifice from an early age. Umadora quickly developed a talent for crafting intricate devices and magical items, showing a particular flair for creating potent weaponry.

When the Last War broke out across Khorvaire, Umadora saw an opportunity to put her skills to use. Rather than aligning herself with any specific nation or dragonmarked house, she chose to remain independent, using her expertise as an Artillerist to establish herself as an arms manufacturer. Umadora's reputation for crafting powerful and reliable weapons at affordable prices spread far and wide, and soon her creations were sought after by military forces and mercenaries alike.

As the war dragged on, Umadora's business thrived, but she remained focused on her craft, always seeking to improve her creations and push the boundaries of what was possible with artifice. She developed a keen rivalry with House Cannith, which dominated the market for magical weapons and armor. Umadora believed that her weapons were just as effective as those produced by the dragonmarked house, and she was determined to prove it to the world.

When the Last War finally came to an end, Umadora relocated to Sharn, the City of Towers. There, she set up a workshop and storefront to continue her work as an arms manufacturer. In a city where the influence of the dragonmarked houses loomed large, Umadora's reputation as an independent and affordable alternative to House Cannith gained her a loyal following.

Now, Umadora the Undervalue continues to innovate and challenge the status quo in the magical arms industry. She works tirelessly to create new and improved weapons, often collaborating with other independent inventors and artificers in Sharn. While the shadow of House Cannith may always be present, Umadora's determination and skill have made her a force to be reckoned with, proving that even the smallest gnome can stand tall in the face of mighty competition.

Magixa devoted herself to their cause, honing her abilities and embracing her role as a guardian against the encroaching darkness. While the Last War raged on, Magixa and her fellow Gatekeepers remained vigilant, focusing on their mission to protect the land and its inhabitants.

Throughout the war, Magixa crossed paths with various individuals who, like her, sought refuge or purpose beyond the conflict. His reputation as a skilled and fearless tracker grew, making him an invaluable asset on the battlefield.

Once the war ended, Alozarian found it difficult to adjust to a life of peace. The adrenaline and excitement of the hunt were deeply ingrained in him, and the bustling city of Sharn seemed to suffocate his spirit. Nevertheless, he established a base in the city, hoping to find some semblance of purpose in this new world.

Alozarian tried his hand at various jobs, using his skills to locate missing persons, retrieve stolen items, or track down exotic creatures for wealthy collectors. While these tasks provided him with a steady income, they did little to satisfy his longing for the thrill of the hunt. The wild outdoors called to him, and the fey spirits whispered in his ears, urging him to return to the untamed lands he once roamed.

Aware of the expectations and responsibilities that came with bearing a Dragonmark, Alozarian struggled to reconcile his desire for freedom with the ties that bound him to House Tharashk. The house's influence weighed heavily on him, making it difficult for him to simply walk away from the life he had built in Sharn.

Determined to find a balance between his duties and his passions, Alozarian began seeking out opportunities that would allow him to use his skills in more challenging and meaningful ways. He took on missions to protect endangered species, investigate strange occurrences in the wilderness, or help those in need, hoping that by doing so, he could reconnect with the wild spirit that had once defined him.

As Alozarian Yanzi continues to navigate the complex web of obligations and desires, he remains a formidable force, his Mark of Finding and fey connections making him an extraordinary hunter and tracker. However, the seemingly endless conflict began to take its toll on the astral elf's spirit. Witnessing the atrocities and betrayals committed by those who had once been his comrades, Onrelov's faith in the crown and the ideals it represented began to waver.

One fateful day, after a particularly harrowing battle in which he saw friends and enemies alike commit unspeakable acts, something inside Onrelov snapped. In a moment of despair and rage, he renounced his Oath of the Crown and became an Oathbreaker, his once-noble powers now twisted and corrupted by his disillusionment.

With the war's end, Onrelov found himself adrift in a world that no longer held any meaning for him. He made his way to the city of Sharn, where his martial and magical prowess, along with his knowledge of the inner workings of the former kingdom, made him a valuable asset in the city's criminal underworld. As a power broker, he began to orchestrate the rise and fall of various factions, manipulating the shadows from behind the scenes.

Though he now lives a life far removed from the noble path he once walked, Onrelov Robby remains a formidable force in Sharn's underworld. His skills and influence have made him a sought-after ally and a dangerous enemy, and though he has forsaken his oath, his power continues to grow as he navigates the treacherous landscape of a city built on secrets and betrayal.
